Filmmakers Statement

I do not have a lot of film related experience. I have written a few scripts in the past but not in a professional manner, more of just jokes and plot points put onto a page sort of like a bullet list that I would later go in and flesh out the scene or dialogue more. I have done some live action recording but all of those projects were very short time wise. Most of my projects are just me and my friends playing video games in my garage and trying to make it entertaining. However, that does sometime require a lot of troubleshooting various issues, trying to get the best audio possible, and often very lengthy editing sessions. I've also had to match audio to video, rendering, exporting, uploading, and managing data. Most of those projects are not what is considered film but it is meant to be entertainment and most of the skills involved will translate over into a production and post-production setting. I hope to learn everything that I possibly can from this course, everything from the processes involved in each step, the different jobs and what they entail, all of the equipment and how to use them effectively, and how to work with everyone else and their particular jobs in a way that is effective and productive as well as fun. In ten years I hope to be making projects or working on projects that I really enjoy. So far I've found that I like editing so maybe I'll be an editor. As long as I have fun making the projects that I am a part of, I'll feel like I've done something worthwhile, obviously with this mentality money can potentially and probably be an issue but I can prepare for that.

Outside of film studies

I personally like something called bushcrafting, it's sort of like survival out in the woods but with less of a threat of death and more of the fun of camping with or without a tent. On top of that I also enjoy blacksmithing and pretty much any kind of metal work, it give a sense of accomplishment and wonderment that something as strong and as resilient as metal can be turned into pretty much anything you want if you put your mind to it. Other than that I like to spend my time with my wonderful girlfriend Jennifer.

Master Shot Scene Producer

I was the Producer for the Master Shot Scene project and I feel like this project was very rewarding in terms of experience. Honestly I did not have to do the entire producing job by myself because my group members helped a lot in terms of finding actors and extras and locations. They also helped a lot with the set dressing. I was in charge of making the mock up budget in which we came out under budget which was good. We ended up using a lot of stuff that we already had or finding stuff for cheap from the dollar store. I made sure all of the correct forms were signed and that they were scanned correctly. I ended up reading over the rules multiple times convinced that I was missing something but I could not find anything. We got lucky in that the location for the shoot was entirely by itself with no windows or any openings to the streets or people walking by so we only needed one form signed to use the location. Ideas for Role in Master Shot Scene

With my role being producer, I am going to help the Director find the location, actors, and props. I will need to fill out the forms to rent the equipment for the days we need them. I will dress the set, supervise what the actors are wearing, and keep track of the props. I will keep a close eye on the shots for continuities sake and make sure everything matches. If anything looks out of order or a shot is missing and it is overlooked I will bring it up to the director. I will try my best to keep everything in order and make the shoot go smoothly. I will also be responsible for data wrangling and I will also put the corresponding files into Premiere Pro and sync the audio and video and then transfer them to the editor. I will be keeping track of the paperwork needed, all the forms, storyboards, overheads, budget, scripts, shot lists, and things of that nature. How this class has affected my ideas about being a filmmaker

This class if anything has strengthened my resolve to be a filmmaker, I loved every aspect of this class and learning hands on by doing projects instead of just reading from the book. I learned that I like pretty much everything in production and post production from shooting, editing, lighting, sound, and everything in between. I do not like pre-production too much, I understand why it is necessary and that it saves a lot of time later on and that it is a good practice to use, I just end up somewhat second guessing myself like if this would be better if this looked like this or used this instead of this. I also don’t like being a producer that much but every other job I liked a lot. I learned a tremendous amount from this class and I had a lot of fun making the projects. I only had an admittedly loose understanding of film making in general before I took this class, I still don’t know much but it really taught me a lot.
